They treat this as if it's soooo obvious. But people whose parents didn't want them? Some would want to live, but a lot won't. It's not the same as being suicidal, but if you're frequently reminded how much better one/both of your parents' lives would have been if you had never existed, it's hard not to be ok with never having been born.Melissahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12874792076331648983noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35611028.post-72497669890775972032011-05-21T15:36:34.265-04:002011-05-21T15:36:34.265-04:00Lol it is funny have you every though it is simple...Lol it is funny have you every though it is simple can be found by searching for Alyx Vance?Rashirohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09732120575639340209noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35611028.post-1108070570277046372011-02-05T11:29:31.860-05:002011-02-05T11:29:31.860-05:00Uh, Mr. Rambo, I think you're in the wrong pla...Uh, Mr. Rambo, I think you're in the wrong place.

I'm not even going to go into how many shades of hilariously wrong your comment is, because honestly I'm just confused about how you thought that a post about defending everyone's right to not have their body operated on without their consent would be a place to try and insult me.Dorihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13676888930241945753noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35611028.post-50382414805897523482011-01-26T14:57:39.533-05:002011-01-26T14:57:39.533-05:00YES! That said, "calling rape" in any situation involving charges is actually exceedingly rare. The FBI's own stats of false rape charges were less than 10% of all charges filed.

There is no evidence to back up the myth you are referencing. If it were true, wouldn't jails be overflowing with men that had been put there by false rape accusations? or at least wouldn't there be tons and tons of rape trials? or at least tons and tons of investigations? Except none of these things exist. The sad fact of the matter is that we live in a world where reported rapes are rarely properly investigated (look up "LA county rape evidence backlog" for more info on one particular part of the US,) and even when they are, only 10-20% of those cases ever go to trial, and less than half of those end in a conviction.

Sorry, sweetie, but you believe a lie. Have you even bothered to read anything before you decided to just chime in with your ~opinion~?

Speaking of judgment calls, who the hell are you to judge when a rape is "false" or not anyway? That is hardly the reason rapes aren't taken seriously. More like victim-blaming and misogyny which is what you fucking sound like about now.T. They are as much to blame as the judicial systems are. How can law enforcement take any woman seriously when an alarmingly large percentage of the reported cases are mean-spirited women trying to get back at men who've jilted them or women who've gotten with someone they realize they shouldn't have and instead of facing up to the fact that they made a mistake, call rape on the guy?

From what (little) I understand of the Wikileaks situation, that first scenario sounds much more likely than rape.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35611028.post-91334608249118605502010-12-08T20:11:28.138-05:002010-12-08T20:11:28.138-05:00Linked here from Shakesville.

I usually have to tell every new doctor before exams have even started that I depend on my own scent (along with other things) for cues about my health before we even start discussing anything.

@PortlyDyke

Reading about your partner's sensitivities was what really galvanized me to just drop even the "natural" wax based deodorants. I think one of the entries of yours about her issues had the link to the cosmetics database, and if nothing else that will give anyone the sweats (heh)

@Kissmyassterisk D: Both of those stories are awful! The assumption on both their parts that you either just don't know how to not stink, or that you can't afford to is really ignorant and classist.

@Rebecca
There is definitely a lot less conscious thought than my post suggests with regards to smells, it just galls me that we are so inundated with the idea that our own natural smell is gross that we even get to point of having such a visceral reaction to human smells in the first place. The body odor objections are not quite the same as the shaving objection, I think, because the training regarding smells goes even deeper and is attached to more things. More corporate money goes into the things that change our smells (processed foods, chemical additives, red meat) and the things that cover that change. Now I've quit using it and I don't shave anything. But I also get that because nobody is used to people smelling like people, it can be really difficult to get used to smelling body odors, like it takes time to assimilate... Smell reactions are a really subconscious things and it's hard to control how you feel because of them, which can be very negatively... and people need to immerse themselves in body odors in order to get used to them. I'd wager that the people who have a problem with it offer such offensive justifications for wearing deodorant mostly because they have this visceral, subconscious disgust reaction that takes a while to mitigate. Like, these people are being judgmental no doubt, but I have a little more sympathy for them than for when people are judgmental about shaving.. because in order for not shaving to be offensive, your brain's gotta pull up this whole gendered construct to justify the objection.. but for body odor things.. all that has to happen is.. a person isn't used to a smell being around, they therefore find it gross.. like I know there are also double standards for men and women... but I guess I just don't like to treat people's objections to my body odor as being exactly the same as people's objections to my hairy legs.thlinganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18117532288115965796noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35611028.post-41880006249017070352010-06-24T02:19:37.858-04:002010-06-24T02:19:37.858-04:00This is awesome. I never used deodorant growing up - I'm not sure why my mother never bought it for me, because she bought into all the beauty and smell standards for women and wore it herself. When I finally realized that I "should" be wearing it, I got some, but I always thought the smell was more disgusting than anything my body produced naturally. I still wear it, but I don't know why. I don't actually sweat a lot (a problem for me - I frequently get overheated), and wearing deodorant always stresses me out because of the cancer risk. That is a major blow to a teen's self-esteem, especially when that teen suffers through society's fat-shaming and recurrent depression.
